FCMC in cooperation with partners to hold the first FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEEK in Latvia
In cooperation with partners the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC) will hold the first FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEEK in Latvia. In this context, various activities are planned from March 18 to March 22. FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEEK 2013 has been held as part of annual event Global Money Week promoting financial literacy among the children and youth organized by Child and Youth Finance International movement. The purpose of this activity is to highlight importance and versatile role of financial literacy in everyday life within the like-minded countries. In Latvia, the activities of the week will be further coordinated by the FCMC.
“During this week we will emphasize importance of education not only among the youth but for everyone by doing various tests and using reference materials offered by our partners and market operators. We will encourage everyone to make use of existing activities and tools to get answers to the questions, such as: “How much do I know about finances?”, “Which of educational tests do I cope with?”, “How can I perfect my financial literacy?” – FCMC Chairman Kristaps Zakulis, points out.
The press conference devoted to the opening of FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEEK 2013 will be on Monday, March 18, at 11:30 am, on the FCMC premises (1 Kungu Street). FCMC Chairman Kristaps Zakulis, Minister for Education and Science Roberts Ķīlis, Governor of the Bank of Latvia Ilmārs Rimšēvičs, President of the Association of Commercial Banks of Latvia Mārtiņš Bičevskis and representatives of other partners are invited to participate in the opening of the event.
Partners of FCMC collaborating in organizing events of this week are the Ministry of Education and Science and National Centre for Education (NCE), Bank of Latvia, Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC), BA School of Business and Finance, Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Latvia, Association of Commercial Banks of Latvia (ACBL), as well as several commercial banks. Partners will offer educational activities every day of the week. The list of scheduled activities is available (only in Latvian) at: http://www.fktk.lv/lv/publikacijas/citas_publikacijas/2013/2013-03-11_finansu_izglitibas_nedel/
On the first day of FINANCIAL EDUCATION WEEK 2013 the list of virtual financial education activities will be compiled for the first time, encouraging everyone – be it a child, youngster or adult – to discover their level of financial literacy through various tests and tasks.
FCMC became an official partner of the global movement Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) on 29 January 2013.
