Saeima approves the nomination of Ģirts Rūda as Member of the FCMC Board

Monday, 16 March, Saeima of the Republic of Latvia approved the member of the Board of the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC), Ģirts Rūda, who was proposed by the FCMC Chairwoman Santa Purgaile. Ģ.Rūda will take office at the FCMC on 30 March 2020 and thereby the Board of the FCMC will be composed of three members. The candidacy of Rūda was agreed by the Finance Minister and the Council of Latvijas Banka (Bank of Latvia), and his nomination for appointment was supported by the Saeima Budget and Finance (Taxation) Committee.

“Ģirts Rūda is a lawyer with profound professional experience, including in the financial sector, his extensive knowledge and experience will contribute to the FCMC Board at work. I am pleased to see a targeted, step-by-step move towards the introduction of the FCMC governance model in line with the provisions of the Law on the Financial and Capital Market Commission and transitional rules, enabling the FCMC team to carry out its functions effectively,” FCMC Chairwoman S. Purgaile indicates.

Rūda holds Master’s Degree in Business Management from Riga Business School, and Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Bristol. His past professional experience is mostly related with law offices. Currently, Rūda is General Counsel at the Baltic high speed rail line AS ”RB Rail”. He is also a lecturer at the University of Latvia.
